Best Activities in Armstrong

Why visit Armstrong? It’s a valid question considering the town’s size and its northern location, but you’d be surprised what you can see and do here. An older city, Armstrong celebrated 100 years of being around in 2013, however that doesn’t mean that it’s “behind the times” in any way. From skydiving and horseback riding to fine wining and dining, there’s something for everyone here. Check out the list below for some of the best things to do while in the Armstrong area:

Attractions & Entertainment:

The Caravan Farm Theatre

Rated the number one thing to do from TripAdvisor while in Armstrong, the Caravan Farm Theatre is an excellent first stop. Originally started in 1978, the crew there are dedicated to providing the best performances possible. A professional outdoor theatre, there’s acting that takes part in every corner of the property depending on the production. With a variety of performances that take place in every season, there’s sure to be one that you’ll enjoy.

Armstrong/Spallumcheen Museum and Art Gallery

Want to discover the rich history of the Armstrong area? Look no further than the Museum and Art Gallery of the Armstrong/Spallumcheen area. Learn about how things used to be with their replicas of a train station, schoolroom, general store and blacksmith shop. All displayed items have been locally donated so you know there’s a bit of Armstrong in each one. While you’re there why not check out the art gallery as well? They rotate out different exhibits monthly so there’s always something new to check out.

Events:

The Interior Provincial Exhibition

One of the largest stampede events in BC, the IPE has a host of options to take part in and enjoy. For thrill seekers, there’s many rides who want to spice up their time at the event. Alternatively try your hand at winning something in the many carnival games that are spread across the grounds. You can always take part in the classic exhibition food as well. Try out something new from a food truck or find your favourite carnival food (*ahem mini donuts *ahem) to get some energy to cheer on the participants of the rodeo. Speaking of the rodeo, it’s one of the largest in BC. Enjoy a beer watching the bull riding, or cheer on your favourite barrel racer. There’s something to entertain everyone at the event.

Shopping:

Specialty Shops

If you’re looking to take home some delicious food or eat some while you’re there check out the The Village Cheese Company for a great place to eat lunch, or buy some locally made artisan cheese (a staple Armstrong is known for). If you’re craving something sweet head down to the Chocoliro Finest Chocolate shop. There, you can buy locally made chocolate that will melt in your mouth. They also provide specialty chocolate based on holidays (think Valentine’s Day or Christmas) and even for big events like the IPE. If you want to take part in the local wine tours a great winery to pop into would be the Edge of the Earth Vineyard. With friendly staff and excellent wines, you’re sure to have a good time.

We hope you have a fantastic time if you decide to visit Armstrong!
