While you might be inclined just to drive through the small city of Armstrong, you’d be surprised at the things you can take in while passing through. Particularly the wealth of outdoor activities you can take part in. Hike around the many trails that spiderweb over the region or visit the excellent golf course that is wonderful for taking in the sun while smacking a white ball around the grass (hopefully then into a hole). Hiking and Trails:

Mount Rose Swanson

A scenic trail with many different ways to climb it including biking or horse riding, this is a great choice for people who want an easy-medium challenge. The mountain, named after Rose Swanson, the daughter of the famed settlers who first pioneered the area in 1862, also has an exceptional lookout point. Snap some stunning photos from the top for those scrapbook memories or choose your favourite filter and make your friends jealous on Instagram. A four to eight kilometer trek for a round trip that’ll likely take you about one-and-a-half to three hours you’ll definitely be getting a leg day workout.

Hidden Lake

Nestled away or ahem, hidden, are the Hidden Lake trails. A gorgeous set-piece of nature, these trails twist and turn around the serene lake. An often used spot for both fishing and camping this area keeps on giving that outdoor goodness. On your hike around the lake are many chances to view the local bird, wildlife and wetland animals that will hopefully give you a chance to snap some photos. An easy trail to walk along, with varying lengths to increase or decrease your level of exercise, this is a great choice for people of all ages.

Golfing:

Royal York Golf Course

Don’t let this nine-hole golf course deceive you, it has its challenges, but still provides a relaxing experience. A full length course, with 3200 yds of green to fly your ball over, don’t get “shafted” with a par of thirty-five. Don’t feel like walking? Don’t! The course has power carts to get you whizzing around the green. Forget your clubs at home or didn’t have the space in the car? No problem! Quality rental clubs will get you shooting hole-in-ones in no time. When you’re done with your game you can always unwind and have a cold one or stock up on energy at the Fairways Bistro.

Outdoor Recreation:

 Historic O’ Keefe Ranch

Alright, you got me, this is isn’t technically an outdoor recreation activity, but that doesn’t mean you’re inside the whole time or can’t participate in fun outdoor activities. There’s plenty to see and do here, a great time for the kids would be to check out the animal farm that has all the best farm animals from cows and chickens to the rare Jacob Sheep with its double set of curved horns, and plenty of exotic birds to take pictures.
